being anne - cold bitch
Anyone who has been following my blog for a while will know how much I love minimalist sounds. My heart for simplicity in music has also brought this gem into my collection.
being anne is a well-traveled artist, in search of roots that seem to be everywhere. Born in the Harz Mountains, raised in the Saarland, in Hamburg and France, studied in London and fell in love in New York. These are roots that extend far and wide and take in the most nourishing aspects of all worlds.
With all this cosmopolitanism, it is surprising that the newcomer only needs a guitar next to her to move these worlds. She sounds exhausted on the one hand, but stubborn in her views on the other. And that's a good thing. Because the song is about a somewhat unhappy ending with a talent for shaking your head. Cold Bitch is something of a first mental inventory after a Facetime break-up with a "high level of frustration". Her ex says enough with the emotionality. But she can't and doesn't want to be a cold bitch.
I agree with her and even say that life only begins with feelings! Maybe it's just her ex's oestrogen levels, but that would go beyond the scope of this article...
The lyrics of being anne are not "lyrics" in the true sense of the word, but almost like scraps of thoughts written down, sometimes in the heat of the moment, sometimes well thought out, sometimes emotionally reworked. It sounds like this:
"You say it's lack of self-control / and that I'm too emotional... / If I could be a cold bitch, baby you'd see / how I'd burn your clothes and throw out your TV"
And despite all this pent-up rage, Madame remains quiet, outraged by deadly silence, plenty of sarcasm and an exhaustion that serves the delicacy of her voice. And that's exactly why I couldn't forget the song. It was her voice with which she shared this debacle with us as sincerely as a singer can.
Let's hope that the good times in life will also provide her with pearls like this.
