Die Hemden - Wir brechen unsere Herzen (ganz allein)
For the harmony of today's sound pearl in advance a little etymology with an excerpt from the Duden: "Shirt: Middle High German hem(e)de, Old High German hemidi, actually = the covering, covering." We each have colorful to boring ideas about the shirts (the garment) of this world. It is given to the variety that functionality gets color. However, veiling and covering are two keywords that are not only adequate for the root of the shirt, but also apply to the shirts (that is, the band). One wonders where they have been all this time....
A short introduction: The band from Hannover consists of Daniel Keßling (lead guitar), Jan Müller (bass), Birger Reese (vocals, guitar) and Miran Sharif (drums). They have been playing the small stages of this country for many years. In my opinion they belong on a big one. Right next to Kettcar and Gisbert zu Knyphausen. But one has the feeling that they don't want to go there. They describe themselves as headstrong and prefer beautiful things far away from the mainstream. You can also hear that in their music. The single "Wir brechen unsere Herzen (ganz allein)" from the EP 'Tagtraumnation' was written sometime in the summer of Pandemic 2020 and now found its way into my playlist.
The sound pearl hits the deep gray of melancholy, but without the kitsch, but with quite a lot of word art and the right amount of serious sadness. The scenery: broken hearts. With cards on the table, plain language is spoken. A mix of broken expectation and reproach emerges, sounding as dramatic as poetic ("you hoped I'd make wine out of your tears") A rough vocal combines with playful guitar riffs reminiscent of American folk. The rhythm does not allow us to stop, but to move on. The light is at the end of the tunnel and when we have realized that the responsibility lies with us, everything will be fine again.
You really don't wish anyone to have their heart broken. But if something beautiful comes out of it, maybe it was not sooo wrong...
And we know:
"The last song must be sad"
