Emma & Matilda
Today I would like to introduce you to two diamonds in the rough from Finland. The two friends Emma & Matilda released their debut single only in November last year. Since then, things have been going steadily uphill for the newcomers. With over 70,000 listens on Spotify on three singles so far, a sparkling rise is already in sight.
They got off to an enchanting start with their touching debut single Joku jonka sä haluut. A song about heartbreak that overcomes all language barriers. You don't have to know Finnish to be touched by their music. At most, one will be very motivated to book the next Finnish course. Long live the language of suffixes! We're talking about a language that served as inspiration for Elfish. As if that wasn't enough romance, they write and create the sound gems from the edge of their bed. Bedroom folk made in my bedroom. After all, it's easier to dream that way. And that colors the timbre. Light elf music, sung, breathed, dipped in sugar with a young seriousness.
The second single Sä saat mut is my new favorite pearl. At the same time, everything is so gentle that you are afraid to move, lest you scare the shy singers. The sound pearl continues the color scheme and delicate line of the first single. This time, however, we succumb to the heady feeling of being in love. Although they perform and produce most of their songs themselves, they have enlisted the help of producer Atso Soivio here.
"This song is about when you realize in an unimportant everyday moment that you don't want to be anywhere else in the world than where you are right now, and how wonderful and so scary it is at the same time. Last summer we were in Hamburg making music, the first idea came at the breakfast table and we finished the song in our room in the evening of the same day," say Emma and Matilda. As a Hamburger, I'm a bit proud of that...
With their new single Veronica, the two of them pick up the pace a bit, and things get going. But everything remains airy and light as if elves were dancing. Veronica must have inspired them to soar. Relationships are generally an endless source of inspiration for the two friends. Add to that a pinch of dreams et voilà, and the new indie-folk wonder from the far north is ready.
So if you're in the mood for light, minimalist, enchantingly fragile sound pearls, follow the invitation below into the world of fairies.
