Evil Twin - Fine Line
The newcomer band Evil Twin moves on a thin line between two worlds. With solid pop-rock they combine freedom and chaos to a danceable sound pearl.
The band from Brooklyn got to know each other at Northwestern University. The most diverse currents (jazz, blues, classical, pop and punk) are their own. Together they create a motley rock-pop.
Recruited by frontman Peter McGee, who was looking for the '"best and brightest" for his band, the four debuted with their single Soul Surfarr last November. Now they follow up with the single Fine Line.
The sonic gem is about the inner struggle that occurs when fulfilling our desires gets in the way of fulfilling our responsibilities.
With lyrics that draw parallels between the political tensions that led to World War I and the inner conflict we all face, Fine Line builds to a powerful chorus. "When do we cross the line between excitement and fear, between freedom and chaos?"
“Most of my lyric writing is subconscious,” says McGee. “I was thinking about a moment I had last summer– sort of a whirlwind before the storm– and referencing all of these historical moments. Afterwards, I’d go back through and find the reasons I subconsciously connected certain things to one another and figure out what I was trying to say, then build from there.”
Strange how the creative buds sometimes sprout. The beauty is when they become earworm pearls. Playful guitars meet an optimistic sound that brings fun. So light that you might not even get the idea there's chaos on the other side of the line. Thrill meets naivety. A little bit we lost our minds.
“This song is about that moment– marching off to a battlefield thinking you’ll live up to your potential, do the thing you were born to do, and then one year later all your friends are dead in a trench. It’s depressing… but there was happiness for a moment, wasn’t there?”
But we should have known better. Irony and melancholy are just great to dance with.
