Hathors - The Valley
Today you'll learn what the color white has in common with dolphins, fictional table tennis games and submarines. Not to forget the art of the poker face...
Long overdue, the single The Valley by the band Hathors joins my sound pearls list today. The song comes from the LP 'Grief, Roses & Gasoline', which was completed and released back in 2020. The album was mixed by John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, Pavement, Wu-Tang Clan) at his Seattle studio. World standstill meant that the video for the single didn't come out until March of this year. Patience is a virtue...
Speaking of virtue. We can't ignore that the Egyptian goddess Hathor had her fingers in the pie. Revered as the goddess of music, dance and song, she must have given the three guys of Hathors the necessary inspirational genes in their crib. But Hathors existed only in a different constellation. Without wanting to denounce the value of the old grouping, I am quite happy that the band has reinvented itself. Guitarist and singer Marc Bouffè has stayed, drummer Dominique Destraz and bassist Thorsten Polomski have joined. This leads musically to a further development, which may be difficult to comprehend for old fans of the band, but for newcomers like me a welcome sound carpet. Heaviness has given way to lightness, the dramatic grunge and punk tone now infused with a neon glow.
The single The Valley has all the makings of a catchy tune - especially one you can properly sing along to. Dynamic guitars that groove with the singer, a drive that can turn any highway into a roller coaster. (Please understand only in the figurative sense). Festival mode sets in, good mood arises quasi automatically. The official music video for the song artfully picks up the 'Yes-Whatever-Charme' and transforms it into humorous street art and apathetic still life moments. You can become an ostrich some times ...
