Joe Bennick - Unser Leben
Sometimes something is so beautiful that it almost hurts.
Poetry from 1922 finds its way into our sound pearls list. This is as touching as it is disturbing. One would think that the spirit of those days was different. But art is a timeless and a hundred years a blink of an eye for the Horen.
The single Unser Leben is a setting of a poem by Joe Bennick's grandfather. The two did not know each other, but find themselves in it Bennick probably will. He puts his inherited creativity into music and words.
The debut album 'in close distance' was released at the end of 2019, followed by 'blossom and gloom' (Timezone Records) in 2021 and in between our protagonist published his first novel 'Erlensee'. February 2021 the poetry book 'Entfernungen' highlights the English lyrics of the debut CD with the underlying German poems. The CD "blossom and gloom" adopts this concept in its booklet. He even received an award for the latter. The German Rock and Pop Award in the main category "Best Solo Singer - Original Composition" and in the special category "Best Booklet" went to the singer songwriter in 2021.
Schiffe aus bunter Musik (Ships from colorful music)
In his concerts, Bennick combines music and text to create a performance. That he is well received with his reading concerts is certainly not surprising. Even in pandemic times he was not deterred. Without further ado, Bennick converted the VW bus into a mobile stage and toured the country with it. Simply delightful...His hunger for music and singing drew the musician already as a student to stages and street concerts, either alone on the road or in various bands. Over time, his style evolves into singer songwriter material between folk and acoustic indie.
Unser Leben lines up there. It is a song full of melancholy and lightness, deep questions and everyday situations. Gentle guitar sounds underpin the melodic vocals. Everything seems fragile. Unlike his previous sound pearls, Bennick sings in German this time. This is due to the preciousness and source of the words, but makes me hope that he keeps this tone. Because it suits him pretty well.
Music for all fans of Reinhard Mey and Gisbert zu Knyphausen.
