YATWA (Kopie)

Why The Strokes might be envious …

Valentin Seißler, Tobias Klappacher, Markus Ramsauer, Petra Benes

When you tattoo each other, trust must have crossed the line of goodwill. Otherwise, singer Valentin Seißler would not now carry the name of the debut album on his feet. Or rather under his skin. More Rockn Roll Bad Boy Image is not possible. The wildness of the four Viennese can also be found in their music. Katauna Kata (not to be confused with Hakuna Matata) was released in autumn 21 under LasVegas Records with songs about sex, drugs, love and the serious questions of life. Sound pearls that go into your ears and legs.

It all started with the single Chihuahua, an ode to man's little friend. Humorous, cheeky and a rock that invites you to cha cha cha. A must have in the next playlist. Songs like Liquid Gold, Servin' USA and Worn Out Blue are more reminiscent of prairie rides and good old rock'n roll with leather jacket and lard curls - Elvis reinterpreted. That they can also be quieter, they prove with the songs Kurt - deals with broken systems - and with the piano ballad Uncomfortable Confusion - the search for love.

This is a song about drugs

This is how the song Sugar Town begins, a sonic pearl that deals extensively with drugs. Of the ten sound pearls on the album, it is the one that most likely brings the sweaty bounce mode of indie rock with it. Festivals send their regards. Flora also stands out as a single and reveals the wide spectrum of the band. The fairy tale of the rich man and the young girl is sung about and although we think we already know the outcome, the Austrian snout teaches us better. Absolutely listen to the end!

This creativity and exuberance, which either the exciting new start or the hunger for life brings, is what makes the music of YATWA so exciting and varied. Other bands (see above) can take a leaf out of their book. Hardly any pearl is like the other. I love it.

Welcome To Adulthood

Parallel Lines, the first single release from the new album, shows us what can happen when three songs merge into one. The puzzle complements perfectly to a danceable indie rock track that reveals a whole new sound in their style (Maybe the influence of producer Mario Fartacek ?). The new song goes along with a redesign aka acronym design of the former band name (formerly You and the Whose Armies).

With the words "Welcome To Adulthood" singer Valentin invites us to an acid trip and enlightenment. While we don't need drugs to happily sing along to the chorus, we do notice the happiness is split between two. A little pity is spilled across the dance floor....

But that does not detract from the catchy tune and the danceability. Music is also addictive.
