The Bombhappies - Boléro

Was that all there was to it?

A question that many a fan of favorite bands must have asked themselves. But we wouldn't be in the age of comebacks if the five Stockholm boys from The Bombhappies didn't resurface with new music. What ABBA can do, they can do for a long time.

Joel Bergqvist, Johan Nordlind, Jonas Ohlson, Linus Vive, Andreas Westling (There used to be more tinsel…)

The Bombhappies were born almost thirty years ago in 95 in Karlstad, Sweden. They are still considered an insider tip. They describe their style as a mixture of early nineties US college rock, seventies Swedish progressive rock and 80s British post punk. A fascinating combination of musical talents.

Groundhog Day

The comeback song Boléro is a homage to that very Boléro by Maurice Ravel. Like its model, Bombhappies Boléro consists of a theme that repeats itself over and over again. For a whole nine minutes. Thematically, it's about a long-standing on-off relationship whose cycle is reflected in the music. One melody, one rhythm, different orchestrations. The music theorists among you will surely have their fun.

The song begins like an early morning walk in the woods. I hear a harmonica out in the sea of sound. The first round goes to the orchestra. In the second act, the vocals enter and tell of the turbulent relationship. But the tone remains neutral, as if everything is sh* - no matter. After all, it is what it is...all a rippling flow. And so the forms of presentation alternate. Sometimes with, sometimes without singing. Through the different orchestration the song remains entertaining. Increase is neither in the volume nor in the 'drama - mode' to recognize. At times Boléro gets a bit fuller, only to ripple away again and end with birdsong.

I don't wish anyone such a relationship, but the inspiration gained should not be disregarded. In the end, everyone can sing along, too.
