Ingrid St-Pierre - Ludmilla

“When I was little, summer days were calculated according to the fruits that were picked: end of school with the strawberry season, then raspberries, ferns, blueberries, apples with the beginning of classes. Each of the pickings was a time, a novel, a wonder." I SP

Today's sound pearls collection comes from the pens of Ingrid St-Pierre. The talented musician can already look back on four published albums. Born in Cabano Bas-Saint-Laurent, legend claims that she first sang and then spoke. She proved this in 2011 in her first album. Since then, a lot has happened. Ingrid St-Pierre creates a motley album world in which she happily lives. Sometimes a little more pop, sometimes a little more orchestral arrangements (Tokyo), then increased electro influences (Petite Plage - a strong album in my opinion). A repertoire that serves the most diverse demands. A few days ago her fifth album Ludmilla (Simone Records) was released. This time she is mostly silent and lets the music speak.

For half an hour, you disappear into another world with her ten tracks. Ludmilla, first single release and namesake of the album, was inspired by childhood and the desire to hold on. The new single Petits fruits was inspired by hot summer days coming to an end. Time, she says, is like a sweet fruit. Memories of her childhood in the summer are strongly linked to the harvests of seasonal fruits. Pure nostalgia, is all I'm saying.

Ludmilla has become a predominantly instrumental album. Gentle piano sounds are joined by occasional choral singing (Petite chorale) and guitar sounds. Escape from the world for half an hour. This is very easy with this album. Their music could come from the world of Amelie (Les émerveilleurs), or from the classic 'Eat Pray Love' (Dire au revoir). Every now and then ballet dancers float by in front of the inner eye. Quite delightful is the (far too) brief guest appearance of African song Hát ru cho Namiko ngu. My favorite song, however, is Les grands ciels, the anthem at the end. Here, everything is given once again and you swim away in a sea of nostalgia and light. Light, there is light everywhere.

Almost as if it were summer again.
